Backmark: Blank
Construction: Low convex, one-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank missing. These buttons are typically recovered without their shanks. According to Warren K. Tice, author of the button reference book "Uniform Buttons Of The United States 1776-1865", "The loop type shanks were inadequately tack-soldered to the button backs, resulting in many being lost in the field." The button has a very pleasing chocolate brown patina and no cracks, breaks, repairs, or major bends.
Recovered: Wilmington, NC
Comments: This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
