North Carolina Sunburst Button

SOLD

Item: North Carolina Sunburst Button
Backmark:
Blank
Construction: Low convex, one-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Fair, excavated, shank missing. This button has an underlying reddish-brown patina with some with some residual yellow soil. The button front displays the letters "NC" on a lined field surrounded by a circle in the center. The lines of varying length, emanating from the center circle towards the button's rim, represent the sunburst. A small portion of the rim is missing at about the seven o'clock position. The rear has an unusual residue build-up in some areas of the rim likely as a result of a fire or ground action, or both. The button has not been repaired.
Recovered: July 1990 in "Camping Field" off Red Hill Road, Louisa County, VA
Comments:
Included in the additional images of the button is an image of the digger's index card indicating, in most cases, the button's identification, assessment of condition, recovery date & location and other general information. In the unlikely event where there are discrepancies between the digger's description and Virginia Relic's description, Virginia Relic's description shall be deemed correct. Several of these NC sunburst buttons were recovered during the same month and year, from the same dig site in Louisa County and the digger used the same index card to list these buttons. I expect to list two more examples which are in similar condition. This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
