This fired .577 caliber Enfield bullet is an unusual find due to the fact that it was recovered with its original boxwood plug intact and solidly secured within its cavity. The boxwood is solidly secured by the deformed rim of the bullet. Amazingly, the wood has lasted for the 100+ years of being buried. The bullet has a grey-white patina. It is from a collection of relics acquired directly from the digger's family that were all recovered from central Virginia battlefield areas. With this Enfield bullet you can be sure that the wood plug is original to the bullet.
Approximate size: All measurements vary due to distortion: .617 inch diameter at its widest point at base; 1-1/16 inches overall length; 505 grains weight.
Reference: Examples of unfired Enfield bullets can be found pictured and described in the following Civil War bullet reference book:

This fired Enfield bullet, with boxwood plug, will be excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet, battlefield, or general relic collection.
