Item: Colt Revolving Rifle Bullet - .56 Caliber.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Grey-white patina and in near perfect form.
Recovered: Unknown.
Approximate size: .571 x .97 inches. 496 grains.
Reference: M&M: 117
Comments: A scan of page 28, found in "Civil War Projectiles II Small Arms & Field Artillery with Supplement" by W. Reid McKee and M. E. Mason, Jr., shows an example of this bullet and is included in the additional images. The more recent published "Round Ball to Rimfire, Part Four" by Dean S. Thomas, which contains examples of Confederate small arms ammunition specimens, includes a brief paragraph on Colt's Revolving rifle and carbines, a scan of which is also included in the additional images. This bullet will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
