Federal Picket Pin

This Federal picket pin, constructed of wrought iron and measuring approximately 13 inches in length, was used in the field to secure the horses when resting. This specimen appears to be excavated, is missing its ring, and is in good solid stable condition. An example of a similar picket pin is pictured in "Civil War Artifacts" by Howard Crouch on page 129, item 2 and in "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" by Stanley S. Phillips on page 79 as item 1. These pages are included in the additional images in this listing. This picket pin will be an excellent addition to any campsite, cavalry, or general relic collection.
