Item: Pre-Civil War Artillery Militia Coat Button - Silvered
Backmark: "PLATED" with wreath. rm
Construction: Convex, one-piece.
Approximate size: 20 mm.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated, secure shank present. Silvered front shows wear on the shield and letter "A". It has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.

Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons Of The United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, "Both northern and southern militia serving during the early months of the Civil War must have used them (militia buttons), since they are occasionally unearthed at Civil War campsites." This Artillery militia button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
