This excavated pistol barrel with large bell muzzle pre-dates the Civil War during the late 18th to early 19th century. It is likely of foreign / European manufacture and constructed of cast brass which is now has a pleasing green-brown patina. There are a few areas on the barrel's surface with concreted rusted iron. It measures approximately 4-5/16 inches in length; interior diameter is approximately .37 inches; exterior diameter is approximately 1/2 inch., and its bell diameter is approximately 3/4 inch. The two projections on the underside of the barrel would fit into slots in the wooden stock. Small pins were sent through the stock to hold the barrel fast with pins sent through small holes in each projection. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated pre-Civil War firearm, campsite, battlefield, or general relic collection.
