Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons Of The United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, "Both northern and southern militia serving during the early months of the Civil War must have used them (militia buttons), since they are occasionally unearthed at Civil War campsites." This button will be an excellent addition to any pre-Civil War militia button or general relic collection.
