Remington Rider Percussion Revolver

SOLD

This Remington Rider double action percussion pocket revolver, with its low serial number of "29", indicates that it was manufactured early on as these weapons were produced between c. 1860 to 1873.  The total production is estimated to be approximately 2000.  It has a five shot "mushroom" shaped percussion cylinder.  A three inch, .31 caliber, octagon rifled barrel.  There is a large, oval shaped, silvered, trigger guard. The small checkered grips are made of hard rubber (gutta-percha).  The manufacturer's stamp of "MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS', ILION N.Y., RIDERS PT. AUG, 17, 1858 MAY 3, 1859.", on top flat of the barrel, is present but difficult to read without magnification.  There are remnants of the cone type front site on top of the dovetail which remains in place at the end of the barrel.  The serial number "29" is observable on the bottom flat of the barrel near the cylinder pin and on the underside of the frame inside the trigger guard bow.  Condition: The double action mechanics are tight and in good working order.  The hard rubber grip on the right side has a 1/2 inch chip on its underside where the retaining pin protrudes through the metal butt strap.  The metal, originally blued, has a mottled brown patina with some light pitting throughout.  All parts appear to be original.  This rare, early production, Remington pocket revolver is considered to be in NRA ''good" condition.
