Item: Rhode Island State Seal Coat Button
Backmark: "SCOVILL . MFG. CO. / WATERBURY." dm
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. This button, with its brown patina, is covered with gilt. Light ground action has made the back mark slightly difficult to discern, but is still visible under good lighting. The button has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: During the 1970s from the Petersburg, VA area.

Comments: This fine Rhode Island state seal button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
