Schenkl Combination Time and Impact Fuze

Item: Schenkl Combination Time and Impact Fuze
Construction: Zinc.
Use: Detonation device for a Schenkl artillery shell.
Approximate size: Overall length: 3.2 inches. Fuze body length 2.69 inches. Rotator cap head diameter: 1.2 inches. Threads: 12 per inch. 
Condition: Fair, excavated. Grey patina. Overall, this solid fuze is mostly intact, and its surface was lightly clear coated at some point so as to prevent any further deterioration. There are no visible markings on the surface. No repairs.
Recovered: A Virginia recovery.

Comments: Relics constructed of zinc such as this fuze, do not hold-up well out in the elements for decades and recovering one even in this condition is a rarity. This Schenkl fuze was acquired directly from the digger's family. The digger hunted Civil War trails, campsites, and battle sites throughout central Virginia and adjacent states for several decades. This fine relic will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery, battlefield, or general relic collection.
