Comments:  From the Peter George Collection. According to Peter George, co-author of "Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War", "12 pounder solid shots were the iconic Civil War cannonball however, there were many more explosive cannonballs fired during the war than solid shots. Solid shots were used for battering purposes while explosive shots were more for killing purposes." This solid shot, with reproduction wood sabot, will display very nicely in any office, den, or family room on a shelf, fireplace mantle. It will also be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
