Item: Federal Cavalry Spur - Marked "Allegheny Arsenal" and "1"
Construction: Cast brass.
Approximate size: 3 x 4-7/8 inches.
Condition: Very good, excavated. A solid spur with an overall brown patina. Its rowel is no longer present. No cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Stafford County, VA.
Reference: Images and descriptions of a similar Allegheny marked spur are found in the following Civil War reference books:

"Historic American Spurs" by Howard Crouch, page 37, item US 9.
"Civil War Artifacts" by Howard Crouch, page 122, item 2.

Comments: The majority of spurs recovered are un-marked. The numeral "1" represents its size. This marked Federal spur will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War spur, Cavalry, or general relic collection.
