Item: Excavated State of New York oval waist belt plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "SNY". Rear with solder fill and stud or "puppy paw" type belt attachment hooks.
Condition: One half of buckle excavated. The remaining portion of its brass front has the letter "S" and approximately 3/4 of the letter "N" with an overall brown patina. The rear has most of its solder and the two belt attachment studs.
Recovered: Hilton Head Island, SC
Approximate size: 55 (H) x 53 (L) mm.
Comments: This half plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
