This excavated sword pommel for Model 1850 Foot or Staff and Field, Officer Sword is constructed of cast brass and is in very good condition. It was acquired directly form the digger who recovered it from the area of Unison, VA. The brass has aged into a very pleasing dusty green-brown patina. Along the sides are what believed to be raised Acanthus leafs. There is a slight inward bend along one side. It measures approximately 2-1/4 inch in length and its head measures approximately 1-1/8 x 1-5/8 inches.
