This excavated US model 1860 cavalry saber was recovered just off Mine Road in Fredericksburg, VA and is in dug relic condition. Its cast brass guard, pommel cap, and approximately half of its iron blade with tang, are present. It is solidly intact with no movement of any of the parts. The brass guard and the pommel cap both have a very pleasing deep green patina. The outer branch of the guard is slightly bent with a portion resting upon the middle branch. Its iron blade is solid, stable, and still in its raw un-treated condition. Looking at this awesome excavated Civil War cavalry weapon, one has to wonder how it ended up in this condition. There are no repairs and this relic will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War weapon, battlefield, or general relic collection.
