US 4.2 Inch Parrott Case-Shot for 30 Pounder Rifle

SOLD

This US 4.2 inch Parrott case-shot was for use in a 30 pounder rifle had a brass Parrott type II sabot which is missing. This piece of heavy artillery weighs approximately 27.8 pounds and is approximately 11 inches in length. Its Parrott time fuse adaptor is still visible and, if you prefer the "as dug" appearance then this case-shot is for you. It has not been cleaned or coated, though it has been professionally disarmed. This short case shot is much rarer than the thirty pounder common-shell and was primarily used by the US Navy but were also in use by the US Army in siege operations such as Petersburg. This case-shot was recovered by a farmer decades ago from his own farm field in Petersburg, VA. and Virginia Relics was able to acquire it directly from the farmer's widow. That farm field is now a nice little housing sub-division. This Parrott case-shot will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
