Item: Excavated US Belt Buckle
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised large letters "US". Rear with solder fill and arrow type attachment hooks.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front has a primary brown patina. There is old minor rim damage at the "U" end resulting in a very, very slight upward bend and a very small dent under the "US" at the rim. There are several small hairline fractures that are visible with a good light and magnifier. The rear has a complete complement of stable solder and all three attachment hooks. The plate has no breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Brandy Station VA area.
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
Comments: This fine belt plate is in great form and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle, plate, or general relic collection.
