Item: Excavated US Belt Buckle
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised large letters "US". Rear with solder fill and arrow type attachment hooks.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front has a very pleasing light glossy brown-green patina. There is a slight upward bend of the rim at the "S" end that includes a very tiny crack in the rim. The rear has a complete complement of stable solder with a very small white mark at the arrow hook end at the rim. This may have been the digger's attempt to stabilize a tiny area of missing solder or, perhaps, just a spot of misplaced paint. All three attachment hooks are present and the plate has no cracks or repairs.
Comments: This plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle, plate, or general relic collection.
Recovered: Ascension Parrish, LA area.
Approximate size: 56 x 88 mm.
