US Belt Buckle - Stud Hooks

Item: US Belt Buckle - Stud Hooks
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "US".  Rear with solder fill and stud (puppy paw) type belt attachment hooks.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front has a very pleasing milk-chocolate brown patina. The rim is complete with no issues. The rear has a complete complement of solder with all three belt attachment hooks in place. A thin layer of surface solder found on one of the stud cups has flaked away. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Recovered: Orange County, VA.
Approximate size: 54 x 85 mm.
Reference: A US buckle of a similar size, shape and "US" font, manufactured by military accoutrement supplier, Emerson Gaylord, is pictured in the following reference book:

  • "American Military Belt Plates" by Michael J. O'Donnell and J. Duncan Campbell, on page 313, plate 505. (Note: the example in the book is a manufacturer marked example, while the buckle offered here is unmarked)
