Item: ExcavatedUS cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Fair, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a mainly green patina, with a small rust bump to the left of the letter "U", and a few freeze cracks which are difficult to see. There is minor bending in the body of the plate along with some rim damage in a few areas. The rear has nearly all of its solder and is missing its iron wire attachment loops.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Orange County, VA. in the area of Wilderness.
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
