Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron attachment loops.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front, with raised letters "US", has a very nice chocolate brown patina. The rear has a full complement of solderand both iron attachment loops are present and straight up. Both loops were clear coated at some point as a protective measure. It has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Off Cold Harbor Road, Cold Harbor,VA
Approximate size: 56 x 87 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate a near perfect excavated example and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
