Item: Company Letter "H"
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass.
Condition: Very good, excavated, wire loops missing. The brass has a dusty green-brown patina. There are no cracks, breaks, repairs, or major bends.
Recovered: Stafford County, VA
Approximate size: 1 x 1-1/8 inch.
Comments: This company letter, with its two sides connected by one bar, is a particularly difficult letter to recover intact. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War insignia or general relic collection.
Reference: An example of this company letter can be found in the following relic reference books:
"American Military Headgear Insignia" by J. Duncan Campbell and Michael J. O'Donnell on page 167.
