Item: US Infantry Coat Button
Backmark: Believed to be " . SCOVILL MF' G CO. . / WATERBURY . " dm
Construction: High convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure shank present. The front of the button has a slick brown patina with very little ground action, if any. The eagle and letter "I" in the shield are nicely highlighted by the remaining gilt. The rear, with its stand-up shank, shows remnants of old clear epoxy as the button was once used for display. This very attractive and solid button has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Fredericksburg, VA area.

Comments: This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
