US Infantry "Hunting Horn" Hat Insignia

SOLD

This excavated infantry hunting horn hat insignia is in fair condition and was recovered from Dinwiddie County, VA.  It is constructed of thin sheet brass which now has a tan soil coated green patina. When recovered it was likely bent and in 2-3 pieces. The digger attempted to restore it to its original shape by re-bending and using a very minimal amount of white epoxy. On the rear is an area of what I believe to be "white out" where the digger had his inventory number which has now faded away. Also on the rear directly behind the horn's mouthpiece is a remnant of the wire attachment loop. While the device is in one piece, it is fragile and best left in its display case. It was acquired directly from the immediate family of the deceased digger who hunted Civil War trails, campsites, and battle sites throughout central Virginia and adjacent states for several decades. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War insignia or general relic collection.  Approximately 1-1/2 x 3-3/8 inches.
