Item: US Model 1855 Socket Bayonet - .58 Caliber
Construction: Iron
Condition: Excellent, excavated, solid shape. Moderate surface pitting. It appears to have been treated with electrolysis and lightly clear coated so as to stabilize the iron. Locking ring with screw, are present and fixed in place. The blade edge has small nicks. There are no bends, breaks or repairs.
Recovered: Spotsylvania County, VA area.
Approximate size: 21 inches overall length; 3-inch socket length.

Comments: This solid bayonet was also in use with the US model 1861 & 1863 rifle/musket. It was acquired directly from the family of the local Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bayonet, firearm, or general relic collection.
