Item: Navy Chief Petty Officer Button
Backmark: "EXTRA / RICH" at bottom, with diamond, insect, and scroll design. dm
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 17 mm.
Condition: Excellent, appears excavated, slightly loose shank present. It has an even chocolate brown patina with no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown

Comments: This Chief Petty Officer button, likely British made, is either of the Civil War period or about period. Learn more about the term "Chief Petty Officer" by clicking the preceding link. A scan of page 104 from Albert's "Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons Bicentennial Edition", shows a similar example of this button. It will be an excellent addition to any Navy button or general relic collection.
