This US 1839 pattern cartridge box for .69 caliber round ball is in good condition. It could hold 40 rounds of musket ammunition in two tins, which are present, and was designed to be carried on a cartridge box sling only, with no provision for waist belt carriage. The leather is in good shape but the two roller buckles are missing. Its US cartridge box plate is present and secured to its outer flap by its leather thong. Marked on the inside of the outer flap in black block letters is what I believe to be "W. L. G." & "Co. C." The outer flap has six small 1/4 inch slits which surround the US plate and it is believed these slits allowed the flap to hold an earlier type of flap ornament at one time. The box itself measures approximately 7 1/4 x 1 1/2 x 5 3/4. This cartridge box will be an excellent addition to any Civil War firearm, campsite or general relic collection. $365.00 Questions?
