Item: Vermont State Seal Coat Button
Backmark: Difficult to see, but the letters visible indicate " * SCOVILL MF'G CO. * / WATERBURY." rmdc
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, secure shank present. The front of this button has ample gilt with a moderate push to center right and moderate ground action. The rear is solid with a stand-up shank that appears to have been reinforced at its base with epoxy at some point. The button has no cracks.

Comments: This example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
Additional information: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, the front of this button shows:
"The state coat of arms is on a central shield, surmounted by a stag's head crest. A word "VERMONT" lies above, and a ribbon with the state motto and 13 stars is below. The sky of shield is lined and there are six tiers of branches perpendicular to the pine at the device center. The stag head crest is without a well-defined support wreath".
