Item: Virginia Military Institute Cadet Button - R & W Robinson
Backmark: "R & W. ROBINSON" dm on ribbon with an eagle between the swallowtail ends.
Construction: Low convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, secure shank. This very well made solid button has a pleasing dusty green patina. Nearly the entire button front has been pushed but is otherwise in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs.

Comment: It is the R & W Robinson back mark that is typically found on excavated examples of these buttons from Civil War trails, campsites, and battlefields. This VMI coat button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
