Item: Virginia State Seal Button
Backmark: "Wm. H. SMITH & Co * NEW-YORK"
Construction: Medium convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Fair, excavated, secure shank present and bent over to back. This solid button has a brown patina. The front has several pushes and a break at the base of Virtus. There are no repairs.
Recovered: Namozine Church, VA
Comments: This button, from a little known Virginia battle, will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
