Description: An eagle perched on a cannon and surrounded by flags on a lined field. The word "CADET" is above with the initials "W.M.I" below.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. This gorgeous button is covered with gilt with the exception of the high-relief areas. There is one very small push on the rear near the rim, otherwise there are no cracks, breaks, repairs, or other pushes.
Recovered: Quantico, VA area along the Potomac River.

Comments: The button was acquired directly from the Virginia digger who maintained a journal of his days of detecting and subsequent relic recoveries for nearly a decade. The button is mentioned in the very first entry made August 2, 1981. Included in the additional is a scanned image of the digger (figure on left in image), with his hunting buddies and their detectors. This "W.M. I." coat button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
